Hand Carved Owls Mother & Baby in a Log

An exquisitly hand made item that features two owls carved into the natural form of a log. This is a totally hand made product, carved from natural wood. Dimensions may vary slightly. Exact colour/grain of wood cannot be guaranteed and slight differences in style and expressions are inevitable. Crocodile wood, (Zanthoxylum) is a member of a large and diverse botanical family of fast-growing hard wood trees, so-called because of their distinctive rough and ‘scaly’ bark which, when in growth, is covered in prickles. It is also referred to as ‘Satin wood’, on account of the smooth, coolness of the finished surface. It is indigenous to many countries; including Indonesia, Nepal, India, China and South America. Crocodile wood’s natural hardness means it can be carved into finely detailed and intricate designs; giving a very crisp appearance. It has a natural and distinctive pale colour and is used as ‘faux’ ivory. Historically, it was in great demand for complicated inlay decoration in European furniture.
